Metadata: Trout Lake Designation- Full Metadata -- View Attributes -- View Sample -- Get Data - Trout Lake Designation This page last updated: 2007-05-17 14:34:54.0 Metadata created using Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines Metadata Summary Originator Minnesota DNR - Division of Fisheries Abstract This layer shows legally designated trout lakes as identified in Minnesota Rules Chapter 6264. These are inland lakes managed by DNR Fisheries for trout species (not including lake trout). In order to protect and foster the propagation of trout, several restrictions on fishing in these lakes apply. See http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/arule/6264/0050.html for legal descriptions and restrictions associated with designated trout waters. Use Tips This data layer is a subset of the DNR 100K water (hydrography) layer, a statewide data set originally derived from USGS DLG 100K data and updated to better reflect Fisheries-managed basins. Lake basin polygons have been merged together (dissolved by DOW#) to form one polygon per lake name. Users are encouraged to use the full resolution DNR 100K hydrography or DNR 100K Lakes and Rivers layers as a base layer to visualize all lakes and fully understand hydrological connectivity, watershed position and spatial relationships to designated trout lake resources. Access Constraints none Use Constraints Current as of MN Rules 6264 6/15/04. Changes to lake designation status will not be immediately reflected in this GIS layer until Rule Revisions are formally adopted. For the most part, only those lakes whose DOW numbers are listed in the DNR Fisheries Lake Survey Database (meaning the lake has been surveyed at least once) have been validated. ALT_NAME: Alternate lake name per Division of Waters LKDBMAIN database LAKE_CLASS: This field holds DNR Fisheries Lake Class information. The Section of Fisheries has developed an ecological classification system for Minnesota's lakes based on the analysis of historical survey records. Using data from approximately 8,000 surveys from more than 3,500 lakes, fisheries research biologist Denny Schupp, developed mathematical models that classified lakes into 43 distinct groups. Variables used to develop the models include: lake area, maximum depth, percent littoral area, total alkalinity, secchi disc transparency, shoreline development factor, morphoedaphic index, and Carlson's Trophic status index. Characteristic fish communities were then described for each lake class by analyzing historical gill net and trap net data. Fisheries managers use this information to evaluate fish population status, determine the effectiveness of various management actions, and to establish realistic fisheries management goals and objectives. The methodology and documentation of this classification system is found in An Ecological Classification of Minnesota Lakes With Associated Fish Communities, by Dennis H. Schupp. 1992. Investigational Report No. 417, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Section of Fisheries, St. Paul, MN REDIG_SRC: Photo imagery source for redigitizing of water polygon features. USCLASS: Field that stores the hydrologic feature type, as per the original USGS DLG classification. Code definitions have been expanded by DNR Fisheries, and some features have been re-classified to better reflect current hydrographic conditions. MAIN_DOW: The primary DOWLKNUM for a lake (the MAIN DOW number ends in ''''00''''). Some lakes are split into sub-basins for management or study purposes. In this case, sub-basin IDs are assigned; (the DOWLKNUM number will end in ''''01'''', ''''02,'''' etc.) Entity and Attribute Detailed Citation Value Domain for Data Element LAKE_NAME: Value Domain for Data Element DOWLKNUM: Value Domain for Data Element DOW_VERIF: Value Domain for Data Element ALT_NAME: Value Domain for Data Element REDIG_SRC: Section 6 Distribution Information Top of full metadata Top of page Publisher Publication Date Contact Person Information , Phone: FAX: E-mail: Distributor's Data Set Identifier lake_destrpy2 Distribution Liability Transfer Format Name Transfer Format Version Number Transfer Size Ordering Instructions See Online Linkage or Distribution Contact Online Linkage Section 7 Metadata Reference Information Top of full metadata Top of page Metadata Date 2007-05-17 14:34:54.0 Contact Person Information , , Phone: FAX: E-mail: Metadata Standard Name Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines Metadata Standard Version 1.2 Metadata Standard Online Linkage http://www.gis.state.mn.us/stds/metadata.htm This page last updated: 2007-05-17 14:34:54.0
